Who we are

Quiet Joker is a small independent games journal operated from 85 Macquarie St, Hobart TAS 7000, Australia. For anything in this notice, write to [email protected] or use the form on our reach page. We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

What we collect, and when

We collect personal information only when you choose to give it to us:

• The letter form. If you write to us, we receive the name you offer, your email address, the reason you selected and the text of your letter. We use these solely to read and answer you.
• The monthly letter. If you subscribe, we keep your email address on a list used for one purpose: sending the monthly letter. Every letter contains an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes your address promptly.
• One cookie. A single browser preference remembers whether you have answered our cookie notice, so we do not ask again. Details live in the cookie note.

We do not collect browsing histories, run advertising trackers, build profiles, or buy data about you from anyone. We deliberately keep no analytics platform on this site.

What we never do

• We never sell, rent or trade personal information — to anyone, for any reason.
• We never send marketing on behalf of third parties.
• We never require an account, a sign-in, or any personal detail to read the journal in full.

Where information lives, and for how long

Correspondence is stored in a private mailbox hosted by our email provider and is deleted once a conversation has been resolved and twelve quiet months have passed. Subscriber addresses are kept only while the subscription is active. We take reasonable steps — including access controls and encrypted connections — to protect what we hold, though no method of storage is perfectly certain.

Overseas disclosure

Our email and hosting providers may store data on servers outside Australia. Where that happens, we choose providers whose safeguards are consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.

Your rights

You may ask us at any time to show you the personal information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it entirely. Write to [email protected] and we will act within thirty days, usually much sooner. If you believe we have mishandled your information, you may also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.

Children

The journal is written for a general audience and collects no information from anyone knowingly under sixteen. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, tell us and we will delete it.

Changes to this notice

If we ever change how we handle information, this page will say so, with a fresh revision date at the top. We will not quietly widen what we collect — that would be the wrong kind of quiet.
